VINES Study

We are currently conducting a new research study called VINES (Visual Integrity and Neural plasticity in the Elderly Study).  VINES will explore two programs designed to improve brain health. Participants will be asked to complete a battery of cognitive, physical, health, and lifestyle measures as well as undergo noninvasive neuroimaging in an MRI.  We are currently looking for participants!

Volunteers:

We are conducting a new research study called VINES (Visual Integrity and Neural plasticity in the Elderly Study).  VINES will explore programs designed to improve brain health. Eligible participants will be offered between $145 and $225 (depending on which activities you are asked to complete) for your participation.  Participants will be asked to complete two visits that include several questionnaires/activities and then two scans in a MRI.  Some of these participants will also be asked to also complete an additional ten hours of activities (completed in five to ten visits, depending on your preference). We have great flexibility in scheduling appointments and will do our best to fit your preferences. If you do not meet the criteria we are looking for during that first 30 minute visit here at UAB, we will thank you and mail you a check for $10 (ten) dollars for your time.

This study will involve between one and twelve visits over seven weeks to the CRAG and include taking pictures of your brain in a MRI machine (similar to the ones that you may use in a hospital). Please call us at 205-934-0232 or 205-975-2290 if you are interested in participating in VINES. Martha Graham or Stephen Todd will explain the study and ask you a series of questions to determine if you will be able to participate. If you are able and willing to participant, we will then schedule you for your first UAB visit for this study.  Additionally, you will be sent a copy of the Informed Consent (a document detailing the entire study and any possible risks or benefits that you may receive).  We will also be available to explain the Informed Consent and answer any questions you may have during your Center visit(s).

Free parking is available directly behind the CRAG facility.  If eligible, you will be offered between $145 and $225 (depending on which activities you are asked to complete) for your participation.  Participants will be asked to complete two visits that include several questionnaires/activities and then two scans in the MRI.  Some of these participants will also be asked to also complete an additional ten hours of activities (completed in five to ten visits, depending on your preference). We have great flexibility in scheduling appointments and will do our best to fit your preferences.
